Daily Water Intake Estimator

Pick an age group and sex to see the daily water intake that the US National Academies give as a general guide, split into water from drinks and water from food, in litres, cups, fluid ounces and glasses.

Built with love by Shushant Lakhyani. Building bestproductivityresources.com

From drinks a day
2.2 L
US cups (8 fl oz)
about 9.3
Glasses (250 ml)
about 8.8
Total incl. food
2.7 L

That is about 74 US fl oz from drinks (water, tea, milk, juice and so on), plus about 0.5 L that usually comes from food.

How it works: the numbers are the Adequate Intakes for total water from the US National Academies (Dietary Reference Intakes for Water, Potassium, Sodium, Chloride and Sulfate, 2005). They describe what healthy, generally active people in a temperate climate usually take in, not an exact target, and about 20% normally comes from food. You may need more in hot weather, during exercise, or when ill with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, and some conditions (for example heart or kidney disease) need less, so follow your doctor if you have been told to limit fluids. Drinking far more than you need can also be harmful. This is general information, not medical advice. Everything is worked out on your device.
