Formula: future cost = amount × (1 + r)ⁿ and buying power = amount ÷ (1 + r)ⁿ, where r is the yearly inflation rate as a decimal and n is the number of years. It assumes the same rate every year, compounded yearly. For example, at 3% a year something that costs 100 today costs about 134.39 in 10 years, and 100 kept as cash would buy only about 74.41 worth of today's goods. A negative rate means prices fall (deflation).

Real inflation changes from year to year and differs by country and by what you buy, so the result depends entirely on the rate you enter. For past or official figures, check your country's statistics office or central bank. This is an estimate for planning only, not financial, investment or tax advice.
