Monthly awards
Best of BPR
Short answer
Every month, 10 resources added to the directory that month are named Best of BPR. A fixed rubric picks them from data already on each listing: free to start, open source, complete and with a working website. Each month is decided once it has ended, and the winners never change after that.

Best of BPR: August 2026
10 winners from the 126 resources added in August 2026. Decided 15 October 2026.
How winners are picked
The same published rubric every month.
Winners are picked by a fixed rubric that reads only data already shown on each listing. Nobody votes, nobody pays, there are no star ratings or popularity counts in it, and makers cannot apply. Every input is visible on the winner's own page.
1. Who can win
- Resources added to the directory during that calendar month (UTC).
- The listing links to an official website, and that website answered our latest link check.
- The listing does not say the tool is discontinued, shut down, no longer maintained or in maintenance mode.
- The link is not an affiliate link, so we never earn from a winner. Sponsors get no say either.
- A month is only awarded once it has ended and has at least 30 eligible additions.
2. Points (out of 14)
- 3 ptsFree to start: 3 if the listing is Free, 2 if it has a free plan, 1 if paid but affordable, 0 if expensive.
- 2 ptsOpen source: 2 if the listing has the Open Source feature, so anyone can read, run or fork the code.
- 6 ptsComplete listing: 1 each for: 3 or more pros, 2 or more cons, a who-should-use note, a who-may-not-need note, a description of 40+ words, and a stored icon.
- 2 ptsPlatforms: 2 if it runs on 3 or more platforms, 1 for 2 platforms.
- 1 ptsHand-written guide: 1 if its page has our hand-written use cases, getting-started steps and FAQ.
3. Picking 10
- Listings are sorted by points, highest first.
- Ties are broken by the SHA-256 hash of the month and the listing's address (for example “2026-09:maildev”), lowest first. It is reproducible and favours no name, date or position.
- Going down the list, a listing is skipped if a winner already has the same main category, or if 3 winners are already of its type, so the winners cover different kinds of work.
- The winners are then frozen: later edits to a listing do not change a past month.
The rubric rewards listings that are free, open and well documented. It is not a judgement that a winner is better than every other tool. Read how listings get into the directory in how we choose.
For winners
Nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay.
Every winner gets a Best of BPR badge for its website or README and a share card for social posts. Both are on the month's page and on the winner's own listing, and the badge links back to that listing. Not listed yet? Submitting a resource is free.
