Formulas: profit before tax = income you want to keep ÷ (1 − tax rate). Yearly revenue = (profit before tax + business costs) × (1 + buffer). Hourly rate = yearly revenue ÷ (billable hours per week × working weeks per year). For example, keeping 60,000 with 6,000 of costs, 25% tax, no buffer and 25 billable hours for 46 weeks needs 86,000 of revenue, or about 74.78 an hour. Count only hours you can bill: admin, sales and learning time are not billable, and most freelancers take weeks off for holidays and sickness.
The tax rate is your own estimate applied as one flat share of profit. Real income tax, self-employment or social security contributions, VAT or GST and allowances depend on where you live and your situation, and are not worked out here. It is an estimate for planning only, not financial, tax, legal or pricing advice. Check with a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
