What is Nextcloud?

Nextcloud is an open-source (AGPL) platform for file sync, sharing and collaboration that you run on your own server or private cloud. You can download the server as an archive or an All-in-One Docker image, use free desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux and mobile apps for Android and iOS, or sign up with a provider that offers a free single-user account with 2 GB or more. Enterprise support plans are paid.

Pros

  • Open source and free to self-host
  • Files, calendar, contacts and office tools in one place
  • You decide where your data lives

Cons

  • Running your own server takes time and skill
  • Enterprise support is paid

Who should use Nextcloud

Teams and tinkerers who want a self-hosted Dropbox they fully control.

Who may not need it
