01

Why pricing matters

Price tells buyers how much your product is worth before they open it. Too low and people doubt the quality; too high without proof and they leave.

Price on the value of the result, not the hours it took to make.

02

Start with value

  • What result does the product deliver?
  • How much time or money does it save?
  • What would the buyer pay to get that result another way?

My product helps [audience] achieve [result]. Estimate the value of that result in time and money for them, and suggest a fair price range with reasoning.

03

Research competitors

Using web search, find 10 digital products similar to [product]. List their price, format, what is included, and how they position themselves. Show it as a table.

Check the prices yourself; listings change often.

04

Know your buyer

Students and hobbyists
Very price sensitive
Freelancers
Pay for time savings
Businesses
Pay more for proven results and support
05

Count fees and costs

  • Platform and payment fees
  • Sales tax and VAT, which may be handled by your platform
  • Tools, hosting, and ads
  • Your support time
06

Use tiers and anchors

Basic
The core product
Plus
Core product and templates or bonuses
Pro
Everything, plus support or a call

A higher tier makes the middle option feel like better value. Most buyers pick the middle.

07

Launch pricing

  • Offer an early-bird price for a real, limited time
  • Reward your email list first
  • Raise the price as you add reviews and updates
08

Pay what you want

Platforms like Gumroad let buyers choose a price above a minimum. It works well for first products and building an audience, but less well for premium products.

09

Test your price

  • Test one price change at a time
  • Compare revenue, not just sales numbers
  • Ask buyers what they almost paid and why they bought
10

Raise your price

  • After good reviews come in
  • After you add new content or features
  • Tell your audience before the price goes up
11

Local pricing

Consider fair prices for buyers in lower-income countries, through regional pricing or discount codes, if your platform supports it.

12

Pricing mistakes

  • Pricing too low because you feel unsure
  • Copying a competitor’s price without matching their value
  • Fake “was” prices that were never real
  • Never testing or changing your price

The golden rule

Do not guess your price or copy someone else’s. Work out the value of the result, research the market with AI, launch with a fair price, and test your way up.
