01

Why clone your own voice

A voice clone lets you narrate faceless videos in your own voice without recording every line. You write the script, and ElevenLabs reads it in your voice.

It helps you:

  • Keep one consistent narrator
  • Fix lines without re-recording
  • Publish more often
  • Narrate in other languages
  • Keep your channel personal without showing your face

Clone only your own voice, or a voice you have clear written permission to use.

02

Instant vs Professional cloning

Instant Voice Cloning
Uses about one to two minutes of clean audio. Fast, good for most videos. Available from the Starter plan.
Professional Voice Cloning
Uses at least 30 minutes of audio, ideally two to three hours. Much closer to your real voice. Available from the Creator plan, about $22 a month, and takes time to process.

The free plan does not include voice cloning. Check ElevenLabs’ pricing page for current plans.

03

Record clean samples

  • Use a decent microphone
  • Record in a quiet room with soft furnishings
  • Keep the same distance from the microphone
  • Speak naturally, in the tone you want for videos
  • Avoid music, echo, and background noise
  • Read varied material, not one repeated sentence

Your clone can only be as clean as your recording.

04

Create the clone

  • Open Voices in ElevenLabs and add a new voice
  • Choose Instant or Professional cloning
  • Upload your samples
  • Confirm you have the right to clone this voice
  • Complete voice verification for Professional cloning
  • Name the voice clearly
05

Write scripts for the ear

  • Short sentences
  • One idea per sentence
  • Spell out numbers and abbreviations as you want them spoken
  • Use punctuation to control pauses
  • Read the script aloud before generating
06

Generate narration

  • Generate section by section, not the whole script at once
  • Try a few takes for important lines
  • Adjust stability and style settings for natural delivery
  • Regenerate any line that sounds off
07

Edit the audio

  • Remove unwanted pauses
  • Level the volume
  • Add music at a low level under the voice
  • Listen through once at normal speed
08

Follow YouTube’s rules

  • YouTube requires disclosure of realistic altered or synthetic content that could mislead viewers. Check its rules for your use, and disclose when in doubt
  • YouTube’s inauthentic content policy can demonetize mass-produced, repetitive videos
  • Make original, researched videos, not script dumps
09

Keep your voice safe

  • Use two-factor authentication on your ElevenLabs account
  • Never share access to your voice
  • Do not upload your voice to unknown tools
  • Delete clones you no longer use
10

Never do this

  • Clone someone else’s voice without written consent
  • Imitate celebrities or public figures
  • Use a clone to deceive or scam
  • Make a real person appear to say something they did not
11

Master narration script prompt

Rewrite this YouTube script for AI voice narration in my voice. Use short spoken sentences, spell out numbers and abbreviations as they should be said, mark natural pauses with commas and full stops, and keep my tone: [tone]. Keep every fact unchanged. Script: [paste here]

The golden rule

Do not clone a voice to sound like someone else. Clone your own, so your channel sounds like you every time.

  • Record
  • Clone
  • Consent
  • Script
  • Generate
  • Edit
  • Disclose

Record two clean minutes today, create an Instant clone, and narrate one short video.

Earnings note: nothing here promises income. Any figures or examples are illustrations, not typical results; what you earn depends on your skills, effort, market and luck, and many people earn little or nothing. This is general information, not financial, legal or tax advice. See our disclaimer.
