What is Typst?
Typst is a markup-based typesetting system for papers, reports, theses and books, a faster and simpler alternative to LaTeX. Its compiler is open source (Apache 2.0) and free to run on your own computer. The collaborative web app has a free plan with 200 MB of storage and up to 100 files per project; Typst Pro costs $7.99 a month.
Pros
- Open-source compiler, free to run locally
- Much simpler syntax than LaTeX
- Instant preview and real-time collaboration in the web app
Cons
- You write markup rather than drag boxes on a page
- Free web plan limits storage to 200 MB
