01

What are motion graphics?

Motion graphics are animated graphic videos: titles, text, charts, icons, and shapes that move to tell a story. They power explainers, ads, social clips, and presentations.

AI tools can now help with every step:

  • Writing the script
  • Planning the storyboard
  • Building the animation
  • Adding voice and music
  • Exporting for every platform

AI makes the frames. A clear message makes the video.

02

Pick your tools

Claude Motion
Turns text, charts, and images into editable animated explainers with MP4 export. In beta on Claude Team and Enterprise plans since October 8, 2026
HyperFrames
An open-source framework from HeyGen that turns HTML animations into video. Works well with Claude Code
Remotion
Make videos with React code. Free for individuals and small teams
After Effects
The industry standard for detailed, polished motion graphics
Canva
Templates and simple animation for quick social clips
AI video models
Veo, Kling, and others for backgrounds and footage behind your graphics
03

Write the script first

Write a 45-second motion graphics script about [topic] for [audience] on [platform]. One idea per scene, short on-screen text, a hook in the first three seconds, and a clear call to action at the end.

Keep on-screen text short. People need time to read it.

04

Plan a storyboard

  • One row per scene
  • On-screen text
  • Visuals and graphics
  • Motion: how things enter and leave
  • Voiceover line
  • Duration

Turn this script into a storyboard table with scene, on-screen text, visuals, motion, voiceover, and seconds.

05

Set the style

  • Two or three brand colors
  • One or two fonts
  • A consistent easing and speed
  • One transition style
  • Safe zones for platform buttons and captions
06

Build the animation

No code
Claude Motion or Canva: describe or choose a template, then edit
With code
Ask Claude Code to build scenes in HyperFrames or Remotion, then render to MP4
By hand
After Effects for full control and final polish

Many designers use AI for drafts and repetitive work, and traditional tools for the final polish.

07

Common motion graphics

  • Kinetic typography: words that animate with the voiceover
  • Animated charts and numbers that count up
  • Lower thirds with names and titles
  • Logo reveals
  • Icon animations that explain steps
  • Map and route animations
08

Animate data accurately

  • Use the real numbers from your source
  • Start chart axes at zero for bar charts
  • Reveal one data point at a time
  • Check every number in the final video

A beautiful chart with a wrong number is worse than no chart.

09

Add voice and music

  • Record your own voiceover, or use a licensed AI voice
  • Time animations to the voiceover
  • Use licensed music, kept low under the voice
  • Add small sound effects on key moments
10

Captions and sizes

9:16
Reels, Shorts, and TikTok
1:1 or 4:5
Social feeds
16:9
YouTube and presentations

Always add captions. Many people watch with the sound off.

11

Respect rights

  • Use only fonts, music, images, and logos you have the rights to use
  • Do not copy another brand’s style or characters
  • Label realistic AI footage where platforms require it
12

Check before you publish

  • Spelling and numbers
  • Can people read each line in time?
  • Captions match the voice
  • Nothing important sits under platform buttons
  • Sound levels are clear

The golden rule

Do not start with effects. Start with one clear message, then use AI to animate it simply and accurately.

  • Script
  • Storyboard
  • Style
  • Animate
  • Data
  • Audio
  • Captions

Turn one chart or tip into a 20-second motion graphic this week, with captions.
