Set Claude up to teach you step by step, test what you know, and adapt to how you learn
Short answer
A free guide to turning Claude into your personal teacher in 2026: a learning Project, teacher instructions, finding your level, Socratic questions, explanations, practice and quizzes, interactive artifacts, voice, spaced review, feedback on your work, progress tracking, and learning honestly.
Claude can explain anything at your level, answer endless questions without judgment, and change its approach when something does not click. Set it up well, and it becomes a patient tutor available any time.
A good teacher does not give you answers. It helps you find them.
02
Create a learning Project
Create a Claude Project for each subject. Add your syllabus, textbook chapters, notes, and goals, so every lesson starts with the right context.
03
Write teacher instructions
You are my personal teacher for [subject]. I am [level] and my goal is [goal] by [date].
Teach one small idea at a time. Check my understanding with a question before moving on. Do not give me answers to practice problems straight away: give hints first. Use simple examples, and correct my mistakes kindly but clearly.
Put this in the Project instructions. Where available, Claude’s Learning style also makes it guide you instead of just answering.
04
Find your level first
Ask me ten questions, from easy to hard, to find out what I already know about [topic]. Then tell me what to learn first.
05
Learn with questions
Ask Claude to teach you Socratically, by asking you questions that lead you to the idea:
“Teach me this by asking me questions.”
“Give me a hint, not the answer.”
“Why might my answer be wrong?”
“What would happen if…?”
06
Get better explanations
“Explain it like I am 12.”
“Give me a real-world example.”
“Use an analogy from [something I know].”
“Draw it as a simple diagram.”
“What is the most common misunderstanding?”
07
Practice every lesson
Five practice questions after each topic
Worked examples, then similar problems for you
Mixed questions from earlier lessons
A short test at the end of each week
08
Make interactive tools
Ask Claude to build interactive artifacts, such as flashcards, quizzes, or simulations, that you can use again and again.
Make an interactive flashcard quiz with 20 cards from this lesson, showing my score at the end.
09
Learn out loud
Use voice mode in the Claude mobile app to practise speaking a language, explain a topic out loud, or get quizzed while you walk.
10
Review on a schedule
Review new topics after one day, three days, and one week
Start each session with a quick quiz on old topics
Ask Claude to focus on what you got wrong
11
Get feedback on your work
Here is my essay or solution. Do not rewrite it. Tell me the three biggest problems, explain why, and let me fix them myself.
12
Track progress
At the end of each week, ask Claude to update a progress note in your Project: topics learned, scores, weak spots, and next week’s plan.
13
Learn honestly
Use Claude to understand, not to do your homework
Follow your school’s or course’s AI rules
Check important facts in your textbook or trusted sources
Write and solve things yourself before asking for help
The golden rule
Do not ask Claude for answers. Ask it to teach you, test you, and show you where you went wrong.
