How to Clone Any Website Now with AI

Rebuild a website’s layout and structure with AI tools, legally and the right way

Short answer

A free guide to cloning a website with AI tools in 2026: what you may and may not copy, legitimate reasons to clone, URL-to-code tools, screenshot-to-code with Claude Code, Codex, Lovable, Bolt, and v0, extracting structure, rebuilding with your own content, fixing responsiveness, performance and accessibility, and the legal lines you must not cross.

The guide

Every section is a compact, self-contained card. Tap the link icon to share one section.

01

Know what you may copy

Usually fine
General layout patterns, section order, and design ideas used across the web
Not fine
Copying someone’s text, images, logos, brand, or code without permission
Never
Copying a site to impersonate a business or collect people’s logins or payments

Clone the structure, not the identity. Make it yours.

This guide is not legal advice. When in doubt, ask a lawyer.

02

Good reasons to clone

  • Rebuild your own old website on modern tools
  • Move a site you own off a platform you are leaving
  • Learn how a layout works by recreating it
  • Use a design you love as a starting point, then make it your own
  • Recreate a client’s site with their permission
03

Your AI tool options

URL-to-code tools
Tools such as Clonesite, CopyWeb, and same.new rebuild a public page from its link
App builders
Lovable, Bolt, and v0 can recreate a layout from a screenshot and a description
Coding agents
Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor rebuild sites from screenshots and notes, with full control of the code

Simple landing pages clone best. Complex apps and dashboards rarely clone cleanly.

04

Capture the structure

  • Take full-page screenshots on desktop and mobile
  • List the sections in order: header, hero, features, pricing, footer
  • Note fonts, colors, spacing, and interactions
  • Save your own content separately
05

Rebuild with a coding agent

Using these screenshots as a layout reference, build a responsive landing page in [framework] with the same section order and spacing. Use my brand colors, fonts, text, and images from the attached files. Do not copy any text, logos, or images from the screenshots.

06

Rebuild with an app builder

  • Upload screenshots of the layout
  • Describe what each section does
  • Replace every piece of content with your own
  • Adjust colors and fonts to your brand
07

Make it yours

  • Your own copy, written for your audience
  • Your own images and illustrations
  • Your logo, colors, and fonts
  • Changes to layout where your content needs them
08

Polish it

  • Check every screen size
  • Compress images and remove unused code
  • Add alt text and good color contrast
  • Set page titles and descriptions for search
  • Test all links and forms
09

Respect site rules

  • Follow each site’s terms of service and robots rules
  • Do not overload a site with automated requests
  • Do not copy data or content behind logins
10

Lines never to cross

  • Phishing or look-alike sites meant to fool people
  • Copying a competitor’s site and content wholesale
  • Using other brands’ logos or trademarks
  • Copying paid themes or code without a license

These can break copyright, trademark, and fraud laws.

The golden rule

Do not clone a website to pretend to be someone else. Use AI to learn from great layouts, then build something that is clearly yours.

  • Legal
  • Structure
  • Screenshots
  • Coding agent
  • Your content
  • Polish
  • No phishing

Pick a layout you admire, screenshot it, and ask a coding agent to rebuild it with only your own content.
