The guide

Every section is a compact, self-contained card. Tap the link icon to share one section.

01

Types of add-ons

Plugins
Bundles of skills, commands, agents, hooks, MCP servers, and mods
MCP servers
Give Claude tools to reach outside systems
Skills
Saved instructions Claude uses when relevant
Mods
Code that changes how Claude Code looks and behaves
Hooks

Add what removes real friction. Every add-on costs a little context and trust.

The Claude GitHub app adds Claude to pull requests and issues. Check what GitHub usage it needs before turning on automations.

09

How to install

  • Run /plugin to browse and install plugins and mods
  • Run claude mcp add or use /mcp for MCP servers
  • Put skills in your project’s .claude/skills folder or install them in a plugin
  • Configure hooks and the status line in your settings
10

Keep it lean and safe

  • Start with three to five add-ons
  • Remove what you have not used in a month
  • Check /context to see what uses space
  • Read the code of third-party plugins and mods
  • Never store API keys in plugin files

The golden rule

Do not install all 35. Pick the few that fit your daily work, and remove anything that does not earn its place.

  • Plugins
  • MCP
  • Skills
  • Mods
  • Hooks
  • Editors
  • Lean

Install one plugin, one MCP server, and one skill that match your current project, and use them for a week.
