Swap characters, objects, and styles in real videos, and build it into your own apps
Short answer
A free Higgsfield Genjutsu guide for October 2026: what Genjutsu does, motion transfer, object swap, and Restyle, using it on Higgsfield and via MCP, the Genjutsu API endpoint, inputs and limits, async requests and webhooks, pricing, use cases, and consent and rights.
Genjutsu is Higgsfield’s video editing model. It keeps the motion of a real video while changing who or what is in it, where it happens, or how it looks.
Motion transfer
Put a new character into a video, keeping the original movement
Object swap
Replace an object in a video
Restyle
Redraw a whole video in one of 20+ animation styles, or your own style
You film the motion. Genjutsu changes the world around it.

How the API works
Create a Higgsfield API account and add a payment balance
Generate an API key in the Higgsfield console
Send a request to the higgsfield/genjutsu/motion-transfer/v1.0 endpoint
Get a request ID back, because jobs run in the background
Check the status, or receive a webhook when it finishes
Download the result
Official SDKs are available, or use plain HTTP requests.
05
Inputs and limits
Source video
At least 4 seconds. Longer than 30 seconds is trimmed to 30.
Image references
1 to 8 images for the API’s motion transfer
Prompt
Optional, up to 10,000 characters
Output length
Follows the prepared source video
Restyle on the web app supports up to 30 reference images and 480p, 720p, or 1080p output. Check the API reference for the values each endpoint accepts.
06
Pricing
As of October 14, 2026, Higgsfield’s API pricing page lists Genjutsu from $0.318 per second at list price, and from $0.159 per second at the current 50% discount. The API is pay-per-use and separate from higgsfield.ai plans. Check the pricing page before you budget.
07

Restyle live footage into animation
Swap products in demo videos
Create consistent characters for series content
Build creative video features into your own app
09
For developers

Use webhooks instead of constant polling
Set spending limits and track usage
Handle failed and trimmed videos in your app
Show users clear terms on what they may upload
10
Consent and rights
Only use videos you own or have permission to edit
Get consent from people in the video
Never make a real person appear to do something they did not
Respect copyrighted characters and brands
Label AI-edited video where platforms require it
The golden rule
Do not use Genjutsu to deceive. Use it to turn one good piece of footage into many creative versions, with permission.
