The guide

Every section is a compact, self-contained card.

01

Why Grok Bot needs different prompts

Grok Bot is xAI’s app for AI teammates. Bots work on a cloud computer, sign in to your tools, and take actions, not just answer questions.

A good Grok Bot prompt says:

  • The goal
  • Which tools to use
  • What to skip
  • What the output looks like
  • Where to put it
  • What needs your approval
  • When to stop and ask

Every template here ends with an approval rule. Keep it.

02

How to use these templates

  • Replace every [bracket] with your details
  • Remove tools you do not use
  • Run it once and check the result closely
  • Save templates that work as skills or routines
  • Never paste passwords or two-factor codes into a prompt
03

Bot setup templates

1 · Bot job description

Name: [name]. Job: [one job]. Description: You help me with [work] for [business or life area]. Use only [tools]. Never [forbidden actions]. Ask before sending, paying, posting, or deleting anything.

2 · First conversation

Before we start, ask me up to ten questions about my goals, tools, preferences, and limits for [job]. Then summarize what you learned and what access you need.

04

Research templates

3 · Company research brief

Research [company] using public sources. Write a one-page brief: what they do, customers, recent news, competitors, and three likely challenges. Add a link for every claim. Save it to [location].

4 · Competitor tracker

Every [day], check [competitor list] for new launches, pricing changes, and announcements. Add changes to [tracker] with links and message me only if something important changed.

5 · Market scan

Find the main tools or services for [problem] used by [audience]. Compare price, key features, and public review themes in a table with sources. Flag anything you could not verify.

05

Sales templates

6 · Lead list

Find [number] companies that match: [ideal customer]. Use public business sources only. For each, note a recent signal, the right role to contact, and a fit score with reasons. Skip existing customers in [CRM].

7 · Outreach drafts

For each lead in [list], draft a short first message that references their recent signal and offers [value]. Save drafts to [location]. Do not send anything.

8 · Call prep

Before my call with [company] at [time], prepare a brief: company summary, recent news, likely problems, five questions to ask, and relevant examples from [our case studies].

9 · CRM update

After each call note I add to [location], update [CRM] with the summary, deal stage, next step, and follow-up date. Ask me before changing deal values.

06

Operations templates

10 · Invoice processing

Check [inbox] for new invoices. Extract supplier, amount, due date, and invoice number into [tracker]. Flag duplicates and anything unusual. Never pay or reply.

11 · Bug report

Reproduce the issue described in [report] in [environment]. Record the steps, expected and actual results, and screenshots. File a ticket in [tool] and send me the link.

12 · Onboarding checklist

Prepare onboarding for [new hire] starting [date] as [role]: a checklist, accounts to request, documents to share, and first-week schedule. Ask me before creating any account.

13 · Weekly report

Every Monday at [time], compile last week’s [metrics] from [tools] into a one-page report with changes, likely reasons, and one recommendation. Message me the summary.

07

Content templates

14 · Content repurposing

Turn [article or transcript] into a LinkedIn post, an X thread, and a newsletter section in my voice using [voice guide]. Save each as a draft. Do not publish.

15 · Review replies

Collect new reviews from [platforms]. Draft a short, polite reply to each in our voice, and flag any that need a personal response from me. Do not post replies.

08

Personal productivity templates

16 · Morning briefing

Every weekday at [time], summarize my calendar, the five most important unread emails, and any deadlines this week. Draft replies for urgent emails. Do not send.

17 · Travel planning

Find options for a trip to [place] from [date] to [date] within [budget]: flights, hotels near [area], and transport. Compare in a table with links. Do not book or hold anything.

18 · Subscription audit

From email receipts in [inbox], list my subscriptions with price, renewal date, and last use if visible. Suggest which to cancel. Do not cancel anything.

09

Skill and routine templates

19 · Teach a skill

Watch me do [task] once. Then describe the steps you learned, ask about anything unclear, and save it as a skill called [name]. Run it once on [test input] for me to check.

20 · Create a routine

Turn the [skill name] skill into a routine that runs every [schedule]. Before each run, check [condition]. After each run, message me what you did and anything that needs my approval.

10

Add these lines to any template

  • “Ask me if anything is unclear before starting.”
  • “Show me your plan before taking action.”
  • “Add a source link for every important claim.”
  • “Do not send, post, pay, delete, or share data without my approval.”
  • “When finished, summarize what you did and what still needs me.”
11

Keep templates safe

  • Give each bot only the access a template needs
  • Keep Auto-review set to Ask first for risky actions
  • Check the first runs of every routine
  • Remember all your bots share one cloud computer
  • Pause routines you no longer need

The golden rule

Do not write a new prompt every time. Save the templates that work, and turn the best ones into skills and routines.

  • Goal
  • Tools
  • Output
  • Location
  • Approval
  • Skill
  • Routine

Start with the morning briefing or the company research brief today. Refine it until you trust the result.
