What is fd?
fd is a free, open-source command-line tool that finds files and folders by name far faster than the classic find command. It uses short, readable syntax, colours its results and skips hidden and ignored files by default, so you can locate that one document or config file in a second.
Third-party open-source projects. We are not affiliated with their authors; repositories are provided as-is by their maintainers. Review each project's license, code and security before installing. See our Disclaimer.
Pros: what fd does well
- Much simpler syntax than find
- Very fast on large folders
- Free and open source
Cons: where it falls short
- Command line only
- Not a full replacement for every find option
Who fd is for
Anyone who often searches for files from the terminal.
Who can skip it
People who never use the command line.
