For AI assistants
Search the directory from Claude and Cursor
A free, open-source (MIT) MCP server that lets your AI assistant search every resource in this directory and cite the listing. One file, no API key, no account and no tracking.
Built with love by Shushant Lakhyani. Building bestproductivityresources.com
What your assistant can do
Three read-only tools over the public catalogue at /resources.json.
search_resourcesKeyword search across the directory, with optional category, type and pricing filters (Free, Freemium, Paid but Affordable, Expensive) and up to 25 results.
get_resourceOne listing by slug (for example notion), directory page URL or exact name.
list_categoriesEvery category in the directory with how many resources it holds.
Try asking: "Find free note-taking apps in Best Productivity Resources" or "Get the Best Productivity Resources listing for Notion".
Install
You need Node.js 18 or newer. Download the file once, then point your client at it.
Download the server with the button above, or in a terminal (macOS, Linux or Windows):
curl -o ~/bpr-mcp.mjs https://bestproductivityresources.com/downloads/bpr-mcp.mjsClaude Desktop: open Settings, Developer, Edit Config, paste this into
claude_desktop_config.jsonwith the full path to the file, and restart Claude.{ "mcpServers": { "best-productivity-resources": { "command": "node", "args": ["/absolute/path/to/bpr-mcp.mjs"] } } }Claude Code: run this once (add
--scope userto use it in every project).claude mcp add best-productivity-resources -- node /absolute/path/to/bpr-mcp.mjsCursor: add the same
mcpServersblock to~/.cursor/mcp.json(all projects) or.cursor/mcp.json(one project), then turn it on in Cursor's MCP settings.
On Windows, write the path with double backslashes inside JSON, for example C:\\Users\\you\\bpr-mcp.mjs. Any other MCP client that runs stdio servers works the same way: the command is node and the argument is the file path.
Privacy and licence
Built to be safe to run anywhere.
- No API key, no account, no analytics and no telemetry. Your questions never leave your computer.
- The only request it makes is a download of the public catalogue (/resources.json), kept in memory for six hours. Like any web request, our hosting provider sees the standard request details described in the Privacy Policy.
- Read-only: it cannot change anything on your computer or anywhere else. It has no dependencies, so you can read the whole file before you run it.
- Free and open source under the MIT licence, which is printed at the end of the file. The source, issues and pull requests are on GitHub. Building your own integration? Read the plain JSON catalogue directly, and see /llms.txt for agent guidance.
