Short answer
A free guide to Personal Finance in Claude as of November 6, 2026: what Anthropic launched on November 5, who can use the beta, connecting accounts through Plaid, what Claude can and cannot see, read-only access, spending by category, spotting duplicate charges and rising bills, useful questions to ask, privacy and training, limits, how it compares with ChatGPT’s finance tools, and safety habits.
Personal Finance is a new Claude feature that Anthropic launched in beta on November 5, 2026. You connect your bank and credit card accounts, and Claude helps you understand your money: where it goes, what changed, and what to watch.
Claude can read your accounts, but it cannot touch your money.
02
Who can use it
A beta for users in the United States
On the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans
Rolling out gradually, so you may not see it yet
03
How you connect accounts
Open the Personal Finance hub in Claude
Claude asks you to connect accounts through Plaid
You sign in to your bank on Plaid’s secure screen, not in the chat
Your bank password is never shared with Claude
One report says you can link up to 16 accounts.
04
What Claude can see
Bank names, account names and types
The last four digits of account numbers
Balances and credit limits
Up to two years of transactions
05
What it cannot do
It cannot move, manage, or invest money: access is read-only
It does not show ads or sponsored recommendations
It does not sell Anthropic-branded cards, loans, or savings accounts
06
What it can do
Spending by category
Totals across accounts for rent, food, shopping, and more
Spot problems
Duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills that keep rising
Big-picture questions
Whether you spend more than you earn
Explain terms
What APR means and how much interest you paid last year
07
Questions to ask
“What did I spend on food delivery in the last three months?”
“Which subscriptions or bills have gone up this year?”
“Are there any duplicate charges or unusual fees?”
“How much interest did I pay on my credit card last year?”
“Did I spend more than I earned last month?”
08
Make a simple plan
Based on my last six months of spending, suggest a realistic monthly budget by category, three places I could cut back, and a small savings goal. Explain your reasoning.
Treat the plan as a starting point. Claude is not a licensed financial adviser.
09
Privacy
Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models
Outside the hub, your normal privacy settings apply
You can disconnect accounts at any time
10
How it compares
OpenAI added similar personal finance tools to ChatGPT in May 2026. Both are read-only analysis tools. Compare which bank connections, privacy terms, and features suit you before connecting.
11
Stay safe
Only connect accounts through the official Plaid screen inside Claude
Never paste passwords, full card numbers, or one-time codes into any chat
Watch for fake “Claude finance” apps and emails
Check important numbers against your bank statements
Talk to a licensed professional for tax, debt, or investment decisions
The golden rule
Do not hand your money decisions to AI. Use Claude’s Personal Finance to see clearly where your money goes, check its numbers, and make the decisions yourself.
