ChatGPT Space is a dedicated home for your pages, uploaded files, and organized work inside ChatGPT. Think of it as a collaborative AI workspace: create documents, organize knowledge, work with ChatGPT, and share results. For eligible accounts, Space replaces Library.
Space ≠ Projects
They coexist: use Space for document-centric work; Projects for chat-centric workflows.
Make a Space by asking ChatGPT: “Create a Space named Content Strategy.” Then create a Page inside it: “Create a page in Content Strategy for my Q4 content plan.”
Useful Space categories include Content Business, Client Work, Product Launch, Marketing, Research, Personal Knowledge, and Company Operations.
Three ways to create a Page
Create a page from this conversation containing the key ideas, decisions, tasks, and next steps.
Edit with ChatGPT
Ask for precise changes: “Make this section more concise,” “Rewrite the introduction for beginners,” “Add meeting notes under Decisions,” “Compare these proposals,” “Turn these numbers into a chart,” or “Create a project tracker from these tasks.” Use comments for a specific passage; use Page chat for changes that affect the whole document.
Spaces can hold folders, Pages, files, and nested Pages. Pages can contain subpages — a natural way to grow without turning a single document into a cluttered wall of text.
Example hierarchy
Marketing Space → Content Strategy → Social Media → LinkedIn / X / Instagram; plus SEO, Analytics, and Weekly Reports.
Ask ChatGPT to rename Pages or move a Page beneath another Page when you have edit access. Remember: moving a Page may change its access through inherited permissions.
Find your work
Navigate via Your items, Shared with you, Pages, Suggested, Recents, and Images. ChatGPT’s broader search can also help you find content.
Files
A file uploaded into a Page follows that Page’s permissions. A link to a separately stored file does not grant access to its original. Connected-service files keep that service’s permissions. Copied or summarized information placed into a shared Page becomes visible to people who can access it.
Permissions
Access can come from direct Page sharing, a parent Page, or the containing Space. Subpages may inherit access. Removing a direct invite will not remove access inherited from a parent or Space.
Use Share on a Page to grant view or edit access, or share a whole Space when several Pages and files belong to one workflow. Each collaborator uses their own ChatGPT; sharing a Page does not automatically share private chats or personal Memory.
A practical privacy rule
When Memory is enabled, ChatGPT may use relevant personal context while helping on a Page. Once personal information is written into a shared Page, everyone with access can see it. Review AI-generated content and permissions before sharing.
On personal accounts, training follows each person’s Data Controls. One collaborator’s choice does not set another’s. OpenAI says Business and Enterprise data is not used for training by default.

Availability & platform support
As of September 30, 2026, OpenAI says Space content creation and editing is available to ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise. Admin and organization settings can affect sharing in managed workspaces. On web and the ChatGPT desktop app, you can create and edit Pages. Mobile supports finding, reading, sharing, and navigating Pages/subpages; Page editing is not currently supported there. Slides, Sheets, and automatic “Keep updated” Page updates are not available at launch.
Chats are where work starts. Space is where it lives.
Use Space for document-centric work that deserves to outlive a chat — and keep Projects for the conversations themselves.
