What is Claude Motion?
Claude Motion is a beta feature Anthropic launched on October 8, 2026. It turns text, charts, diagrams, and images into short animated explainer videos.
Unlike AI video generators, Motion:
- Writes code that animates your content
- Animates text, shapes, charts, and images
- Does not generate footage or AI people
- Keeps every word, number, and timing editable
- Exports to MP4
Motion animates what you give it. Accuracy stays in your hands.
02
Who can use it
- Team
- Included in beta, on by default
- Enterprise
- Off until an owner enables it
- Free, Pro, and Max
- Not included during the beta
Motion has no separate fee. It counts toward your plan’s usage limits, and longer or more complex animations use more.
03
Start an animation
- Ask for an animation in any chat
- Type /motion in the message box
- Choose Output in the message box, then Motion
- Pick a Motion template from the Artifacts tab
04
Give it the right inputs
- A report, spreadsheet, or chart
- Images, logos, or screenshots
- Who will watch it
- Where it will play, such as a meeting or social feed
- A rough length
- What to reveal and in what order
Turn the attached Q3 chart into a 30-second animation for our board meeting. Reveal revenue first, then margin, then the three drivers. Use our navy and white brand colors.
05
Edit precisely
Edit in chat or in the built-in editor. Changing one detail leaves the rest unchanged.
- “Slow down the second scene.”
- “Change 12% to 14% in the final chart.”
- “Hold the last frame for two seconds.”
- “Make the title larger and bold.”
- “Replace the logo with this file.”
06
Export and share
- Download as an MP4
- Share a link, since animations start private
- Find saved animations in the Artifacts tab
- Invite up to 50 outside people per artifact, if your admin allows outside sharing
07
Continue in creative tools
You can hand animations to tools such as Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Luma AI, and Runway. Canva and Captions are listed as coming soon.
08
Great uses for Motion
- Quarterly results for leadership
- Product walkthroughs
- Process explainers for training
- Social clips from a key chart
- Launch announcements
- Data stories for clients
09
Admin setup
Enterprise owners enable Motion in Organization settings:
- Turn on Cloud code execution and file creation under Capabilities
- Turn on Artifacts, then the Motion template, under Artifacts
- Restrict Motion to specific groups with custom roles if needed
On HIPAA-ready configurations, Motion artifacts are not covered by the Business Associate Agreement. Keep protected health information out.

Tips for clear explainers
- One message per animation
- Animate the key chart, not every bullet
- Keep text short and large
- Reveal information in a logical order
- Use your brand colors and fonts
- End with one takeaway or call to action
11
Check before you share
- Every number against the source
- Spelling and names
- Timing: can people read each line?
- Rights to any images or logos
- Sensitive data that should not be shown
12
Master Motion prompt
Create a [length]-second animated explainer from the attached [report, chart, or notes] for [audience], to play in [setting].
Key message: [one sentence]. Reveal in this order: [points].
Style: [brand colors, fonts, tone]. Aspect ratio: [ratio].
Keep every number exactly as in the source. End with: [takeaway or call to action].
The golden rule
Do not animate everything. Animate the one idea your audience must remember, and check every number in it.
- Brief
- Inputs
- Animate
- Edit
- Check
- Export
Start with one chart from your next meeting. A 30-second animation can land a point better than ten slides.
