Short answer

A free 10-step guide to turning Claude into your motion designer in 2026: choosing Claude Motion or code-based animation in Claude Code, setting up a video framework, writing a motion style guide, teaching Claude motion principles, scripting first, storyboarding scenes, building one scene at a time, timing to voice and music, reviewing frames, exporting for every platform, and saving it all as a reusable skill.

01

Pick your path

Claude can design motion in two ways: Claude Motion, a beta on Team and Enterprise plans that animates your text, charts, and images, and Claude Code, which writes animation code you render to video. These ten steps work with either.

Claude Motion
Fastest for explainers from charts, reports, and slides
Claude Code
Full control, custom styles, and longer videos

Claude becomes a great motion designer when you give it a designer’s brief, rules, and feedback.

02

Set up the toolkit

  • For Claude Code, use a video framework such as HyperFrames or Remotion
  • Install any motion skills your framework offers
  • Check you can render a five-second test video
03

Write a motion style guide

  • Colours, fonts, and backgrounds
  • Easing style: smooth, snappy, or bouncy
  • Typical durations for entrances and exits
  • What never to do, such as spinning text

Save it in a CLAUDE.md file or Project so every video follows it.

04

Teach it motion principles

  • Ease in and out, never move linearly
  • Stagger elements instead of moving everything at once
  • Lead the eye to one thing at a time
  • Hold important text long enough to read
05

Script before you animate

Write a 40-second script for an animated explainer about [topic]. One idea per scene, six scenes, with on-screen text under eight words each.

06

Storyboard the scenes

Turn this script into a storyboard: for each scene, the on-screen text, the visual, how it enters, how it exits, and its duration.

07

Build one scene at a time

  • Ask Claude to build scene one only
  • Review it, give precise feedback, then move on
  • Keep shared styles in one place so scenes match
08

Time it to voice and music

  • Add the voiceover first, then fit the animation to it
  • Hit key moments on the beat
  • Keep captions on screen throughout
09

Review frames and export

  • Ask Claude to export still frames at key moments
  • Check text is readable, aligned, and inside safe zones
  • Watch the full video at normal speed before approving

Save it as a reusable skill

Package your style guide, principles, storyboard prompt, and review checklist as a skill or template, so your next video starts at step five.

The golden rule

Do not ask Claude to “make it animated.” Give it a style guide, motion principles, a script, and a storyboard, build one scene at a time, and review every frame before you share.

Write your five-line motion style guide today and ask Claude to animate one ten-second scene with it.
