Best new AI agent, Mac and design resources: 30 September

A roundup of yesterday's directory additions: tools to run and watch AI coding agents, Obsidian memory systems, Mac utilities and fresh interface-design resources.

The directory additions from 30 September centre on running AI coding agents with more control, a set of polished Mac utilities, and a large batch of interface-design resources. Pick the group that matches what you are working on today. Features and pricing change, so check each tool's own page before you commit.

Run, watch and orchestrate AI coding agents

Orkas is a local-first desktop app where a commander model directs specialist sub-agents and the coding command-line tools you already use. Cezar is an open-source orchestrator for running coding agents in parallel, and agent-deck is a terminal session manager that keeps many agent sessions organised in one place.

Once agents are running, you will want to see what they are doing. Claude Code Agent Monitor is a real-time dashboard for Claude Code and Codex, and Otelyssey adds OpenTelemetry plugins for every coding agent so you can trace work with the observability tools you may already have. TokenJam focuses on token efficiency for agents, which is worth a look if your usage is climbing.

For a personal workspace, bloks is a local-first desktop workspace for personal AI agents, Noodle is a workspace for you and your agents, and Octop is a self-hosted assistant that is multi-user and multi-agent. If you want isolated environments, Arcbox runs agents on real machines that boot in under 100 milliseconds.

Several of these are infrastructure for people building agent systems rather than finished apps: Everruns is a headless, durable agentic harness engine, OmniCoreAgent is a governed runtime for Python agents you can let act, Muxi offers open-source infrastructure for agents in production, and AgentPipe is a multithreaded task execution engine. They are developer-oriented, so start with one that matches a problem you actually have.

Give agents memory, and give yourself a reading map

obsidian-mind is a self-organising Obsidian vault that gives coding agents persistent memory, so context survives between sessions. Operon is a task management system for humans and agents inside Obsidian. If you already live in Obsidian, these two are the easiest way to try agent-friendly notes and tasks.

For research and learning, PaperGraph MCP turns maths papers into evidence-grounded reading maps for agents, and Harvard's Machine Learning Systems (CS249r) is a free open textbook covering ML systems, agentic AI and physical AI. MaverickMCP is a personal stock-analysis server for agents; treat anything like it as an experiment for your own exploration rather than financial advice.

Mac utilities worth a look

Quicksilver is the long-running keyboard launcher for controlling your Mac quickly. For screenshots and recordings, Snapzy offers pixel-perfect captures and recordings, Xnapper handles backgrounds, balance and annotations for you, and Kap is an open-source screen recorder. Compresto compresses video, images and PDFs on macOS, which helps when files are too big to send.

Capsomnia turns Caps Lock into a physical keep-awake switch for closed-lid MacBook work, a small fix for a common annoyance. Macfolio is a curated collection of discoveries for the Mac ecosystem if you like finding new apps.

Interface design and inspiration

If you build with shadcn components, Shoogle is a search engine for components, blocks and templates across registries, and AI Canvas installs finished React components, blocks and design systems with one command. Velora UI offers free, MIT-licensed animated components and landing templates, and VantaUI is a UI library built from real products. UI/UX Pro Max Skill gives your AI assistant design intelligence for professional interfaces.

For inspiration, Minimal Gallery collects hand-picked web design examples, templates and tools, and Clone Wars gathers more than 100 open-source clones of popular sites such as Airbnb, Netflix and Spotify. Sendra lets you design emails in Figma and export the HTML, QuickPick keeps your design tools, boards and notes in one place, and ASCIInator and Gradientool generate ASCII art and gradients for quick creative experiments.

A few other picks

ru-text improves Russian text quality for AI agents with cleanup, typography and editorial standards. Converge is an AI platform for modern teams. FreeToken aims to serve very large models on your own desktop, and Lemo Opuscar packages 43 film styles as reusable prompts, each with a short film made entirely in code. Phil is an experimental self-improving agent that trades prediction markets; read its documentation carefully and never risk money you cannot afford to lose.

Start with one agent workflow, one Mac utility or one design experiment rather than adding everything at once. Browse the full directory for the rest of yesterday's additions.
