1. Nvidia Is in Talks to Buy Reflection AI or Deepen Its Investment
The Financial Times reported that the early-stage talks could also take the form of an acqui-hire or extra chips and computing for the open-weight model maker, in which Nvidia has invested $800M.
2. Satya Nadella Calls for a Human-Controlled Emergency Brake on AI
Microsoft's CEO proposed a trust architecture for frontier systems in which controls sit outside the model, builders assume models may be compromised, and authorized people can halt a model mid-task.
3. China Unveils an AI Employment Initiative as Urban Hiring Reaches 10.52 Million
Officials at a State Council briefing said Beijing will address AI's impact on jobs and help workers build AI skills, with January to September job creation reaching 87.7% of the annual target.
4. Walmart's Warehouse Automation Push Hits Technical Setbacks, WSJ Reports
The Journal reported that Walmart and Symbotic, in which it owns a 12.6% stake, have struggled to hit throughput targets and dealt with robot breakdowns while automating about 200 US warehouses.
5. Chip Interconnect Startup Eliyan Draws Takeover Interest and Held Early Talks With Arm
The Information reported that Eliyan received a takeover bid and is targeting a $3B valuation, triple its July mark, while Arm, an existing investor, held early talks but made no offer.
6. Nicolas Cage Says He Refused Amazon's AI Waiver for Spider-Noir
Speaking at New York Comic Con, the actor said he did not authorize AI use on the canceled series, called himself not an AI-friendly actor and said he will probably not work with Amazon again.
7. SpaceX Launches 21 Data Satellites for the Space Development Agency
A Falcon 9 lifted off from Vandenberg early Saturday with the Tranche 1 satellites for the US military's low Earth orbit data network, five days after a last-minute abort scrubbed the first attempt.
8. The Internet's DNS Root Zone Switches to a New Signing Key on October 11
ICANN's rollover makes KSK-2024 the active key for signing the root zone; validating resolvers without it may fail, though over 95% of those reporting their trust anchors already list the new key.
