01

What is Perplexity?

Perplexity is an AI answer engine. It searches the web, reads the sources, and gives you an answer with numbered citations you can click to check.

Use Perplexity when you need to know where an answer came from.

02

Plans

Free
Unlimited quick searches and a limited number of advanced searches
Pro
About $20 a month, more advanced searches, top models, file uploads, and Labs
Max
About $200 a month, the most usage, frontier models, Computer credits, and early features
Enterprise
Team plans with admin controls and data protections

Perplexity changes plan details often. Check its pricing page before you subscribe.

03

Ask better questions

  • Be specific about the place, time, and goal
  • Ask for a comparison table when choosing between options
  • Ask for recent sources when facts change quickly
  • Use follow-ups instead of starting over

Compare the three most popular project management tools for a five-person agency in 2026. Include price, key features, and one downside each, with sources from the last six months.

04

Choose your sources

Use source filters to search the web, academic papers, social discussions, or financial data, depending on what you need.

05

Deep Research

  • Runs many searches and reads dozens of sources
  • Produces a detailed report in a few minutes
  • Best for market research, literature reviews, and big decisions
06

Labs

Labs builds finished work such as reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and simple web apps from a single request, using research, code, and charts.

07

Spaces

  • Group related searches into a Space for each project
  • Add files and instructions the Space should always use
  • Share Spaces with teammates
08

Comet browser

Comet is Perplexity’s AI browser, free for everyone since October 2025. Its assistant can summarise pages, compare tabs, fill in tasks, and answer questions about what you are reading.

09

Perplexity Computer

Perplexity Computer is an agent that combines many AI models to carry out multi-step tasks for you, such as researching, building documents, and working across apps. It launched for Max in February 2026 and later reached Pro and Enterprise, with usage measured in credits.

10

Check the sources

  • Click the citations for anything important
  • Make sure the source actually says what the answer claims
  • Prefer official and primary sources
  • Watch for old pages presented as current
11

Privacy

  • Review your data and AI training settings
  • Use incognito mode for sensitive searches
  • Be careful what you let the Comet assistant do on logged-in sites
12

When to use something else

  • Long creative writing: a general chatbot may suit better
  • Private company data: use a tool connected to your own files
  • Medical, legal, or financial decisions: talk to a professional

The golden rule

Do not trust an answer just because it has citations. Use Perplexity to find sources fast, then open the ones that matter and check they really say what the answer claims.

Ask Perplexity one question you need answered this week and open every source it cites.
